Nigar Shaji: Inspiring Journey of ISRO Aditya-L1 Project Director

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched it’s historic Aditya-L1 mission from Sriharikota to study the Sun, on September 2. After the successful launch of the mission, a lot of discussion has started about a women scientist Dr. Nigar Shaji.

Who is Nigar Shaji?

Nigar Shaji

Dr. Nigar Shaji is the Project Director of Aditya-L1 mission. She was born and brought up in Senketai, South Kasi district of Tamil Nadu.

Nigar Shaji has been working with ISRO since 1987.

Nigar Shaji studied at Government Girls’ High School in her village till 12th standard, in Tamil medium.

After that, she did engineering course, with government scholorship.

Nigar Shaji studied Electronics and Communication Engineering in Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) from Government College of Engineering, Tirunelveli.

Completed engineering graduation in 1986, and applied for an engineer post at ISRO. She got selected for the post.

Nigar Shaji was initially posted at Sriharikota, few months later she was transferred to ISRO’s office in Bengaluru. Now, Dr. Nigar Shaji is one of the leading scientists at ISRO.
