Causes of Vitiligo

The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to be an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks and destroys melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing skin pigmentation. Other factors, such as genetics and environmental triggers, may play a role.

Is Vitiligo dangerous?

Vitiligo itself is not dangerous or contagious, but it can have emotional and psychological effects on individuals due to its impact on their appearance.

Vitiligo treatment

According to WHO, Vitiligo is a completely harmless disease and a patient having Vitiligo can lead almost normal life. Still if a patient wants to get rid of it, a large variety of therapeutic procedures are available to treat this disease.

There are treatments to manage it, such as topical corticosteroids, phototherapy, and skin grafting. The effectiveness of these treatments can vary from person to person.

If you or someone you know is affected by vitiligo, it’s advisable to consult a dermatologist to discuss treatment options and get guidance on managing the condition.
