Activist and folk singer Gummadi Vittal Rao, Popularly known as Gaddar, died at the Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad on August 6 (Sunday).
Gaddar was born on June 6, 1949, in Medak district of Telangana state.
Gaddar became prominent in the 1980s as a Naxalite revolutionary, advocating for social justice and equality for the oppressed. He gained popularity through his powerful songs and speeches that expressed the struggles of the marginalized and called for the empowerment of the working class and peasants.
Over the years, Gaddar has been involved in various socio-political movements, especially the Telangana movement for a separate statehood, which eventually led to the formation of Telangana as India’s 29th state in 2014.
